We all know that Texas has deregulated it’s electricity. Essentially that means that the poles and wires company no longer are the sellers in an electricity monopoly situation. The poles and wires companies, also known as TDSP, once were also the electric generation companies and sellers in a given market. But that is no longer true. The generation parts changed their names, and only operate as electricity generators. Now, with that said…

Houston TX businesses should realize that this means opportunity. It is an opportunity to learn about newer providers, and lower their electric bills. There is ample opportunity to find Affordable Energy prices, and give them a try. You can get 1, 2, 3 or multi year contracts. These will even out the highs and lows of summer cooling and winter heating. Why not know what your bill will be? It is said that in this economy, we don’t really know how available credit will be, or prices, or inflation. But, one thing is standing out. Consumers have decided to cut back on spending. They are saving money, paying off bills, and hunkering down.

Texas Energy Deregulation: Is it working?

Texas deregulated it’s electricity markets in January 2002. Since then there have been questions as to whether it was actually working or not. For the most part it seems, that people were questioning the efficiency of the markets because the rates in some areas of Texas were higher than others. It was cited that some areas of Texas use natural gas as the basic energy to create electricity. In 2002 as you can see from this chart of natural gas prices [Gas price chart], gas prices began spiking upwards in or about 2002. This led many Texas deregulation detractors to the conclusion that deregulation wasn’t working for Texas.

Keep in mind that Texas is a large state with a diverse and capable economy. It for instance houses something like 50+ of the Fortune 500 companies. Texas is a very competitive state. If Texas deregulation was not “working”, it would show up in sustained larger than normal profits for the electric industry as a whole. No one has yet, to my knowledge, made this assertion. There may be some truth in this at the moment. But the business cycle dictates that where “opportunities exist” in a marketplace, it will soon be over run with “profit seeking” companies. But soon, there will indeed be too many companies involved in the said marketplace, and they will begin to leave. Leaving the stronger, more capable companies. In the end, there will be fewer companies, in this case, fewer electric companies and they will have the lions share of the business.

As this happens, barriers to entry grow, and in the end, few companies could start-up and compete in this environment. In Texas we are probably still in the stage where companies are coming to the deregulated market. But, in time they will by their sheer numbers force the prices down as much as possible. In the end, Texas ends up with strong reliable companies, that have built reputations and trust in their respective communities. Barriers to entry will be high, and the margins of profit small.

If and when this happens, we can say that Texas has in fact benefitted from the PUC’s deregulation of electricity in Texas.

AMBIT ENERGY SCAM? Or Good Company?

I have a friend in the insurance business that has hounded me forever to get into AMBIT ENERGY. I have always very politely declined. He didn’t seem to understand that I must have a “problem” with AMBIT and how it is structured. He only thought, well, he will come around eventually. I was secretly glad that my city at the time was not deregulated for electricity. Check here to see if your city is deregulated. But, I had no idea how much money I could actually save. All I heard from my friend was about the MLM structure and the focus on getting representatives to work under me.

Well, I later moved to Odessa Texas, and it was deregulated, but, I didn’t think about getting a competitive price. Probably just like most other people. They just think, well, call the electric company and turn the lights on. Not ever wondering how to get a good price for electricity. Check Here for cheap Texas electric rates. Well, when I did get a “sales” call from my friend, I said ok, I’ll sign up for Ambit Energy. Then, I found out the rate I would be charged and it was almost NO SAVINGS!!!

So, I remained unimpressed. And another thing I was unimpressed with was that if I became an Energy Consultant with Ambit Energy, I would make a whopping 50 cents a customer a sale, every month. That didn’t appeal to me AT ALL! In fact, I was wondering if my friend had a screw loose. Why do all that work for 50 cents? Was this just some sort of SCAM?

Then, one day, not too long ago, I got my Direct Energy bill. Wow!!! It was high, and I immediately went into action to find a good rate. I ended up getting a significantly lower rate and I signed up with Affordable Energy as a Consultant. I personally don’t like how so many MLM companies put all the emphasis on uplines, and downlines, and little emphasis on doing the business. I didn’t find this so much with Affordable Energy.

Trust me, the WORST thing you can ever do is rely on someone else to do work for you. Even if you pay them, they will do a half-ass job. Even if it was a family member you couldn’t expect much. So why, WHYYYYY? Ever expect Pure strangers to work FOR YOU?

True, I am an Energy Consultant with Affordable Energy, and they DO have an MLM program. But, I hardly pay any attention to it. I don’t believe the rather stupid hype of any MLM that I am going to get rich because of the work of others. If you believe that, then stick to your crappy job. And I know it is crappy, because if you aren’t working for yourself it has to be crap. Comment on this if you found otherwise.

So, I was happy to get a much better rate, and find a career to work in. Yes, I said career. I love energy. I once owned several oil wells, back when oil was under $20 a barrel. So, why shouldn’t I make a little when I help people save a lot? I love it. And I want to do well in commercial energy, as well. But before I end this little rant of mine. Thank God for Blogs! Let me say that I researched how to save money at your house or apartment, and we are saving killer amounts of energy. We are an electricity company that pays more residual to the Sales Representative for their personal customers than Ambit or Ignite. We only cost $99.95 to join. Ambit pays .50cents monthly residual for a personal(residential) customer that uses 2000 kwh of electricity in the Texas market. In New York its worst… they only pay .10 cents per month residual for that same customer. Its a rip off!!! We will pay $6.00 per month for that same personal customer, giving the Sales Representative a larger residual. Ignite also pays only .50 cents per month residual for a personal (residential)customer. Ambit does not allow its Sales Representatives to sign up Commercial customers. We offer service for commercial and residential customers. We are currently doing business in Texas and we will be in New York the first quarter of 2008.
