Protecting Yourself from Swine Flu: What to do

By admin • April 28th, 2009

Everyone should keep in mind that Swine Flu is really very much like any type of flu, or influenza virus. To my knowledge none are acquired by eating anything. Swine Flu is gotten by the influenza germ landing or ending up on your nose, in your mouth or eyes. That is pretty much it.

What to do:

1). If you go out, and have to touch doors that others touch use your left hand if you are right handed and vice-versa. Look at the door and realize that most of the time people open the doors with their right hand. And they grab it from the top. You should use your left hand and grab it from the bottom. Grab the door where the least wear and tear is.

2). Wash your hand more often.  Any surface that you touch could have a flu virus on it. Being in public places makes it even more unknown about who has been there.

3). Do not touch your mouth, eyes or nose with your hands, once you venture out into public. If you need to scratch, use your arm or something else.

4). Once they come into the house, have everyone — especially children wash their hands really well.

5) Avoid people that are coughing. Influenza is sprayed like a fine mist in the air when someone sneezes, or coughs, who is also infected. Don’t walk through an area after someone has just sneezed or coughed.

6). Avoid going into public. Stay home more, until it is safe. That is, when no more deaths are occurring, especially in your area, and the infection rate is way down.

7). Avoid going to fast food places. They are manned by young people who are very social, and come into contact with way more people. Like, the buyers of fast food. So, they have a higher incidence of illness.

8). Avoid the hospital like the plague!!!  Hospitals are notorious for making people sick. After all, that’s where the really sick people go.

9). Maybe you can take a couple days off during the worst of it. If not, maybe you can find a way to lower your contact rate with fellow workers.

10). Even avoid church.  Lots of people, lots of surfaces, and a good place to get sick.

So stay home, eat at home, maybe you need to learn to cook anyways? Wash-up when you go out. Avoid coughers and sneezers, avoid fast food, and dining out in general, even avoid shopping. Keep these ideas in mind and you should decrease your exposure.
